November 24. Day 13, Casa Grande, AZ. I made it to Arizona Day 8 and spent a long weekend in the Phoenix area. Two days ago, I arrived Casa Grande only to be welcomed with such openness and generosity by folks who would otherwise be considered strangers that I was knocked off center. Any imaginings I may have had to recover introvertedly from the long journey and weekend in Phoenix were quickly swept aside inside the stucco walls of this desert oasis – a haven freely offered to a certain kind of traveler. My hosts, N and C, tell me they do not welcome all who wish to come here.

I begin to wonder how it is that I passed muster, especially given that I expressed in my initial correspondence that I would be keeping to myself – as in, “I won’t bother you.” Keeping to one’s self doesn’t seem to be on the menu here.  

Just moments after I parked in my designated spot, another couple drove up and backed their truck, butt up, to their already parked RV. They would be here just a few more days …
