It’s been a few weeks since I extended a warm welcome to you who are new. Some of you joined just this weekend with Saturday’s feature of Beyond the Comfort Zone in Substack Reads. I am so grateful to Substack for turning you this way and delighted to share this journey with you. Welcome, new friends!
Over the past week, I have crowded myself into one after another historical, heritage, and cultural center from Dawson City to Watson Lake to gather understanding about the natural and human history of the Yukon. I have never been so moved by a place; so drawn to the wild innocence of belonging; so stirred with immediacy at every turn by the raw edge of human encounter with the wild—and one another; and so filled with wonder about the complexities of our existence.
